When Life Hits

Nothing ever truly prepares us for the unforeseen events of life. One moment, everything seems to be in place, and the next, we find ourselves standing in the middle of a storm, unsure of how to move forward. It shakes us to the core, leaving us feeling hopeless, lost, and questioning everything (our faith, our purpose, and sometimes even our worth).

Maybe life has hit you with deep disappointment, health issues, a broken relationship, financial struggles, or the loss of a loved one, etc. Maybe you’re walking through a season of uncertainty, wondering if things will ever get better.

We all experience seasons where life hits us so hard that it feels impossible to stand. These are the moments that test our faith, strength, and endurance. But the real question is, what do we do when life hits? How do we keep going when everything in us wants to give up?

The Power of Perspective

I’ve come to realize that our mindset plays a huge role in how we navigate these difficult moments. Some blessings truly come in disguise. While it may not feel like it at the time, what if what you’re going through right now is actually preparing you for something greater?

What if that failure was meant to push you harder toward your purpose?

What if that closed door was God’s way of redirecting you to something better?

What if that loved one’s passing was a release from prolonged suffering?

What if losing that job was the push you needed to finally start that business you’ve been dreaming about?

It’s not easy to see things this way in the moment, but shifting our perspective can be the first step toward healing.

What Do We Do When Life Hits?

  • Acknowledge Your Pain – Ignoring or suppressing your emotions will only make things harder. It’s okay to grieve, to feel the weight of the moment, and to admit that you’re struggling.
  • Shift Your Focus – Instead of asking, Why is this happening to me? start asking, What can I learn from this? This shift in perspective can help you see purpose even in pain.
  • Surround Yourself with Support – You don’t have to go through this alone. Find people who will pray for you, encourage you, and remind you of your strength when you forget.
  • Pray and Journal – If you don’t feel bold enough to pray, start by journaling. Write out your feelings, your questions, and even your frustrations. God isn’t intimidated by your honesty.
  • Trust the Process – Life’s hardest moments often lead to the most beautiful transformations. Just because you can’t see the full picture now doesn’t mean God isn’t working behind the scenes.

A Greater Plan

Life will hit all of us at some point, but how we respond makes all the difference. Instead of seeing setbacks as the end, what if we started seeing them as redirections? Instead of viewing loss as punishment, what if we trusted that even in pain, God is working out something good?

Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

If you’re in a season where life has hit you hard, hold on. It won’t always feel like this. You are stronger than you think, and you will get through this. And when you do, you’ll look back and realize that what felt like the end was really just the beginning of something greater.
